![]() ![]() The good thing about the Ultimak is that it's easy to swap on and off, doesn't require mods to the gun, and still looks good on the rifle (IMO) due to the low profile and unobtrusive design. I've never heard of them melting down an optic, but my friend's Amega can get uncomfortable after extended shooting. The potential problem with the Ultimak and similar mounts is that they transfer a good bit of heat from the barrel, and can get fairly hot if you blow through your mags quickly. On the AR, you want to get to the same approximate centerline as your iron sights (about 1.4" above the flat top), while on an M1 Carbine, with its more traditional sighting and cheek weld, you want to be low and close to the bore. You'd want a lower mount for an Aimpoint than you'd typically use for an AR. ![]() I haven't used an Aimpoint, but I imagine it would be roughly the same. They both worked fine, and the Eotech was much quicker and easier to use. By moving it forward, it takes up less of your field of view, but still works the same.Ī friend has the Amega scout mount on his Mini 14, and we ran both a LER scope and an Eotech on it. It would work as well as having an optic mounted on the handguard on an AR, which I've had good luck with. ![]()
